RULES
“GOLD RUSH CUP FLY FISHING CHALLENGE”
- The Cup Challenge will be conducted in compliance with the State of Georgia fishing regulations.
- It is expected that all participants will conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike and ethical manner.
- All two person teams must register & pay a non-refundable or transferable, entry fee of $500, on a first come basis. All entries and participants must be members of the national organization of Trout Unlimited; membership is open to the general public. The cup challenge will be limited to a maximum of ten, two-person teams. For the event to occur, there must be a minimum of five, two-person teams. Should the minimum number of registrants not be received, the challenge organizers reserve the right to cancel the event. If the event is cancelled, then all entry fees will be refunded.
- Each team will be assigned a section of the river to fish on a rotating basis; the team must fish “only” in the assigned section during the scheduled fishing times.
- The highest team score, in the total number of inches, at the end of the day, will determine the overall winner. Ties will be decided by the largest single fish caught by that team.
- All fish to be scored must be measured and observed by an official judge. It is the competitor’s responsibility to net the fish and place it on the measuring board.
- Competitors must use conventional fly fishing equipment. All hooks must be barbless and inspected and approved by the judge. Competitors may not fish pellet-style flies, egg patterns, or similar flies.
- Each competitor will be allowed to score two fish per section; a competitor must decide when they land a trout, if they wish to officially score it. Once a fish is officially scored it may not be exchanged for another fish. After a fish is released, a competitor cannot later choose to score it.
- Should a competitor land a fish with a barbed hook and attempt to score the fish, it will be counted as one of the two allowable fish for that section, and will be scored as zero inches.
- A snagged fish does not count; the fish must be hooked in the mouth area, forward of the gill plates.
- This challenge consists of a total of 4 fishing hours. A bell will be sounded which will announce the commencement of time for each team to begin and end fishing their designated section of the river.
- The decision of the judges and organizers, as to the application, enforcement, and interpretation of the rules and regulations, is final and non-contestable.
